The dollar index eased 0.01% to 97.21 while pair of USD/JPY rose 0.22% to 111.62. Overnight, greenback advances against other major currencies following the release of US private-sector jobs data which showed better-than-expected reading that has catalyzed higher expected for a firm jobs report. Private employers have added 253,000 jobs for the month of May, well above Wall Street’s expectation for an increase of only 185,000. The greenback received further support after US manufacturing activity ticked higher to 53.5 in May with expected rise of 52.8 seen. “If tonight’s jobs report is strong, we might see the dollar make a significant headway as it would prompt speculators to unwind their short position on the currency and US Treasuries,” said Yukio Ishizuki, senior currency strategist.

In the commodities market, crude oil price slid nearly 1% and was last seen at $48.10 during amid growing concern among investors over global supply glut despite larger-than-expected draw in US crude inventories.
